Early Life

Jeffrey Johnson was born on December 3, 1996 in Brooklyn, New York, where he was also raised along five brothers and one sister. He attended GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Jay Jugg gained passion to become a rapper when he was 15 year old. His early inspirations to hip-hop would be by rappers such as Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G., to name a few. Rappers like Jadakiss and the rap group The Lox were heavy in influencing Jay Jugg become a rapper himself. He would record his music at several different independent studios before signing to Villainous Records in 2025. He continued his uprisingmusic career with the help of rapper John Anthony, who would sign Jay Jugg to his independent record label.

Career

Currently signed to Villainous Records, Jay Jugg is currently the second outside artist, behind rapper J Mont, to sign with the independent hip-hop label Villainous Records. He captured John Anthony's attention in late 2024, and was quickly signed to his label.

In his earlier years, Jay Jugg would perform in several independent venues, including opening for Pop Smoke in 2019. He would release his first EP project entitled Jugg Mode in 2020. His main single "They Heard" featured a music video, filmed and edited by BombThreatt Films, while mixed and mastered by Earl Chang. In 2021, he followed up with his second EP entitled Jugg Mode 2. Both EP's would be released on SoundCloud. In 2022, he followed up by releasing his first mixtape entitled Lost Tape as well on SoundCloud. In 2023, Jay Jugg would release two singles, "Trapper", which released on June 17th and received a music video, along with "Out Of Time", which released on July 4th. Both singles were the first of Jay Jugg's songs to be featured on all streaming platforms.

On February 1, 2025, Jay Jugg signed a one-year deal with rapper John Anthony's independent record label Villainous Records.
